Members of this winegrowers' association agree to comply with the high standards and produce only special quality wines. They hang on to steep slopes and manual work, although the amount of work and labor costs are considerably increased thereby. Less harvest yields contribute further to the hight quality. In 2005, the prize "Großen Gewächs" (GG badge) was introduced to award the best dry wines of a vintage. In the best tradition of the association, the membership in the Bernkasteler Ring is characterized by a strict admission procedure, combined with regular sensory samples. Germany's oldest auction company proves itself every year in early June by presenting the new vintage or organizing the national and international "Riesling-Prädikatswein" auction in mid-September.
