Eltz Castle

Castle Eltz is well hidden in the deep forest near Moselkern. My generation knows about it from the time of Deutschmark, when it was pictured on the 500 DM banknote. This castle in the Eltztal has never been destroyed. It dates from the 12th century, when Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa handed it to the nobleman Rudolf von Eltz in a deed of donation and is still in their possession in the 33rd generation.
