Sylvensteinsee

The artificial lake was named after the Sylvenstein, a natural bottleneck in the upper valley of the Isar.

Submerged under the water of the lake is the former village Fall, which was demolished before the flood and rebuilt some dozen meters higher on the road to Vorderriss. Locals say that the church tower could be seen at low tide.

When the water of the lake was drained in December 2015, it was clear that the legend was just a myth and that the church was also blown up. The shape of the lake looks like a fjord. View from the bridge.
